How to eat Surstromming fillet correctly?
When opened, Surstromming has a very strong smell, so it should be opened under water and preferably outdoors. The strongest smell comes from the liquid, so the fish should be rinsed before consumption and then it is ready to eat. This product has no bones, you open it , rinse it in water and is ready to go. If you are not doing ” Surstromming challenge” , then fish is not meant to be eaten straight from the can.
It is traditionally eaten cut into pieces with traditional Swedish bread, which is similar to a tortilla. Surstromming is served with finely chopped boiled potatoes and onions.
A slight swelling of the can is acceptable and is part of the natural fermentation process.
Delivery time is 2-3 days, and does not impact the quality of the product, the fish has to be cooled once recived. It is recommended to take the package out of pick up locker as soon as it is delivered.
